Executive Director, Diane Graham

Executive Director
Diane Graham

Diane Graham has a long history of involvement with Dayton Ohio Habitat for Humanity, starting 20 years ago doing volunteer public relations work for the non-profit. She later served three terms of three years each on the Board of Trustees, the maximum number of years allowed. Diane was President of the DOHH Board for two of those years.

Diane was previously Sales Manager for Sinclair Community College, responsible for conference and meeting services at the David H. Ponitz Sinclair Center for the past eight years. She also worked as a Corporate Meeting Planner for NCR Corporation. Diane obtained an Associate of Arts, with high honors, from Sinclair Community College, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, cum laude, from the University of Dayton, and a Master of Arts in management from Antioch University McGregor. She has advanced training in both accounting and strategic planning for non-profits.

Diane is enthusiastic about her new role working with the DOHH staff and Board to lead the organization forward. “This is exciting! I know what Habitat can do for people. It’s not just about building houses, it’s about changing lives,” she said. “I’ve seen what we can do for families – we are partners in their homeownership.”

Matt Hippenmeyer, President of the Board, supports Diane because of her past involvement with DOHH, her presence in the community and her involvement with corporate and non-profit leaders. “She had the combination of experience, education and people skills we were looking for in an Executive Director,” Hippenmeyer said. “Once our Board members had an opportunity to have a couple of question and answer sessions with Diane, they were unanimous in their desire to bring her on as our Executive Director.”

Diane, a Certified Meeting Professional, also serves as a Board Member of the Kiwanis Club of Dayton Foundation. A life-long resident of Dayton, she resides in Patterson Park with her husband Frank. She has two children, Angie and Ben and three grandchildren, Kate, Ellie and Evan.

Family Services Director, Gail Basine

Family Services Director
Gail Basine

Gail grew up in the historic city of Natchez, Mississippi where she witnessed first- hand the distress poverty housing can have on a city and its people. After marrying an Air Force officer, she spent the next 25 years living in many interesting cities and countries. When her son was born with multiple birth defects and severe retardation, one challenge they faced was to begin a search for appropriate and affordable housing for their son’s future. She became a true advocate for all people in need of housing, expressing that calling through membership in advocacy organizations and by attending protest rallies in Washington DC. She has worked as a manager of low income senior housing and as a long-term care ombudsman- both advocacy positions strengthened her desire and knowledge to advocate for those in need. Gail feels so fortunate that she was given an opportunity to translate her experiences in advocacy and as a Habitat volunteer into further service when she became the Family Services Director for Dayton Habitat. Gail states: “I feel blessed to be part of Dayton Habitat and to be given the opportunity to help families fulfill their dreams of home ownership. I am dedicated to the mission which Millard Fuller set forth of ‘eliminating poverty housing from the face of the earth’.” Gail has a BA in education from University of Illinois.

Field Operations Director
Shawn Miller

Shawn Miller was born in Defiance, Ohio but spent the majority of his life living out of State. The son of a military family he credits his diverse cultural upbringing as being key to his understanding of the world and it’s people. After moving to Massachusetts, he soon discovered his passion for the home building and remodeling industry where he spent the last 24 years as a custom home builder and most recently a manager of Wolohan Lumber in Lansing, Michigan.

Living in service to others by way of mission trips in the U.S. and abroad are a major focus of his life and have led him to continue this focus in his career.

He lives his life in thankfulness to what God has provided for him in his daughter Ashton, his family, friends and his work at Habitat.

Finance Director
Gary Luttrell

Gary Luttrell was born and raised in Kentucky but having lived in Tennessee (twice), Illinois, Pennsylvania, and now Ohio, he feels anywhere he lives is his home. He has a similar feeling about his work. In his fifty-plus years of life, he’s been a teacher, a factory worker (twice), a college student (three times), a book editor and now for the last nineteen years, an accountant, mostly in the governmental and non-profit fields. Amidst these journeys from place to place, he managed to marry a fellow Kentuckian, the former Amy Thompson, now thirty-two years together, and to father four children from this union. Of his work here at Dayton Habitat, he is proud that he can practice his craft to help people. He has learned much from Habitat partner families who have had to work hard to acquire home ownership and to practice responsibility. “I can honestly say that given the temptation of my profession to make more money somewhere else, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere but here doing what I’m doing.”

ReStore Director
Larry L. Stein

Larry was born and raised in Celina Ohio. As a young man he worked for his father, a general contractor, learning the building trade. At twenty three Larry moved his wife and son to Grand Rapids, MI where he continued the building trade for nine years. For the next nineteen years Larry’s career changed to selling. He covered most of the state of Michigan selling roofing to lumber dealers. Seven years ago Larry and his wife Lorene moved back home to Ohio. Larry said everything I have done in the past has prepared me for my work here at Dayton Habitat. I think God has guided my life and career so I can make difference in other peoples lives by helping them get affordable housing.
