Congressman Turner Joins Women Build

Congressman Michael Turner (R, OH – 3) joined Dayton Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 4124 Klepinger Rd. in Harrison Township. Turner made an announcement regarding affordable housing program funding to benefit the Montgomery County community. As the Chairman of the Congressional House Urban Caucus, Turner has expressed a special interest in affordable housing. He thanked Habitat for the great impact they have on the community.
The Women Build house is one of 10 projects in the Dayton area providing low-income families with safe, decent, energy-efficient homes in 2009, with the help of a $100,000 Federal Home Loan Bank Affordable Housing Program grant awarded to Dayton Firefighters Credit Union to benefit Dayton Habitat.
Also in attendance for the event were Senator Fred Strahorn (who even rolled up his sleeves
and worked on the roof after the event), Representative Roland Winburn, Dayton Habitat board members Lee Massoud, Denise Swick and Jack Koepke, Executive Vice President & COO of Federal Home Loan Back of Cincinnati Andy Howell, representatives from the Dayton Firefighters Credit Union and the Federal Home Loan Bank employees and Dayton Firefighters who spent the day building a new home for Toye Jackson and her family. Toye joined the group in the morning to build for a few hours after leaving work. As a single mother of two who works third shift, Toye was delighted by the work being done for her family and excited to work alongside the many volunteers on a beautiful August morning.

Women Build will be going on into November. If you would like to join Toye Jackson in building a home for her family, you can volunteer now!
