Volunteer Recognition Event

Local Volunteers Recognized for Outstanding Dedication

Dayton Habitat for Humanity held their annual volunteer recognition luncheon on January 18, 2009 at the Dayton Masonic Center. The event celebrated the organization's 25th anniversary of serving families throughout Montgomery County, as well as honoring local volunteers’ outstanding dedication to our community.

Six local volunteers, Jim Basine, Gerry Cassidy, Jerry Doty, Charles Gausling, Greg Hoertt, and Clay Shriner received the Presidents Volunteer Service Award. This award is a result of George W. Bush’s call to action to challenge Americans to make time to help their neighbors, community, and nation through service. The award recognizes individuals, families, and groups that have achieved a certain standard measured by the cumulative number of hours earned over a lifetime. These six individuals received the gold level award signifying 500 or more hours of dedicated service to our community.

Numerous other volunteers were recognized for outstanding volunteer service.  Dayton Habitat recognized those individuals who gave 50, 100, or 250 or more hours of dedicated service during the 2008 Build Season.

Dayton Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, Christian housing ministry that works both to eliminate poverty housing around the world and to make adequate housing a matter of conscience and action.  Habitat welcomes to the table partners from any faith - or from no faith - who are willing to pick up a hammer to help improve the lives of families needing decent shelter.
