Youth Involvement

Youth must fill out a Minor Liability Waiver and have it signed by their parent or guardian in order to volunteer with us. Once you & your parent or guardian have it signed, you can fax (937-586-0862) or mail it (3534 Linden Ave., Dayton, OH 45410) to Volunteer Services.

After you've sent in the form, go to our online Volunteer Hub to register for the day you want to build!

If you have questions, call or text 313-5781 or email Volunteer Services.

Under 14
Unfortunately minors under 14 are not allowed on-site.

Ages 14-15
There are many restrictions on the days that minors may be on-site because they cannot be on-site during heavy construction or when power tools are being used. Therefore, minors may only be on-site during landscaping and painting days. After we have received a signed liability waiver we will give you further information on how to register and sign up for volunteer opportunities online. It is best to confirm with the Volunteer Services Director before you sign up for a volunteer day that it is appropriate for this age range.

Ages 16-17
Although children between ages 16-17 may be allowed to participate in construction work, ultra-hazardous activity such as using power tools, excavation, demolition or roofing is not permitted by anyone under age 18.  However, sweeping, landscaping, painting, organizing, cleaning, etc. is extremely helpful and necessary to each and every build site.  After we have received your signed liability waiver we will give you further information on how to register and sign up for volunteer opportunities online.

Youth United

Youth United mobilizes young people, ages 5 to 25, to fully fund and build a house with their local Habitat for Humanity affiliate. Supported by the local affiliate, Youth United brings young people, including Habitat homeowner youth, together from throughout a community to sponsor and build a Habitat home. Students learn leadership and teamwork skills, and gain a better understanding of their community and poverty housing. All students are engaged in fund raising, education and advocacy activities, while those over 16 help with the actual house construction.

The four goals of Youth United are to:

  • Involve youth in their community.
  • Engage youth in Habitat’s mission of eliminating poverty housing.
  • Foster teamwork among diverse groups of youth.
  • Develop youth leaders.
