The Hearts & Hammers Legacy Society represents committed people who have seen the impact of Dayton Ohio Habitat for Humanity, Inc. (Dayton Habitat) on the lives of many people. Its members ensure future Habitat partner families are able to enjoy decent, affordable homes in safe neighborhoods through planned, charitable gifts.
A gift to Dayton Habitat by Will permits you to retain all your assets during your lifetime and/or the life of your spouse. Designations may be for a percent of your estate or for a specified amount.
When the added protection of an insurance policy is no longer needed, transferring the policy's ownership to Dayton Habitat can result in tax benefits for you and a generous gift for Dayton Habitat You can also include Dayton Habitat as a beneficiary, contingency beneficiary or owner of a new or existing policy.
For those who may have significant retirement assets, potential estate and income taxes on any part of those assets that might still be in one's estate at death may be avoided by making the Dayton Habitat Endowment Fund the beneficiary of any unused plan assets.
A direct gift of cash, appreciated securities or real property may be the most convenient way to make a contribution to the Dayton Habitat Endowment Fund.
A Charitable Remainder Trust can provide income to you and your spouse as long as either of you live. Thereafter, the trust principal becomes a gift to the Dayton Habitat Endowment Fund. You may name other charities as principal recipients as well.
A Charitable Lead Trust may be appropriate if you have ample income now, but desire to retain ownership of the trust principal to meet future financial goals for your family. Income will be directed to the Dayton Habitat Endowment Fund for the specific term of the trust, after which time the principal will return to you or designated survivors.
When you transfer cash or securities of more than $10,000 to The Dayton Foundation, the annuity would guarantee you a fixed stream of income for life. The income would flow to you (and to your spouse, if you desire), after which the remaining principal of the annuity becomes a gift to Dayton Habitat. This provides a current income tax savings and possible capital gains tax savings.
